Pinterest Video Downloaders: What Reddit Suggests
Pinterest makes saving a video weirdly hard. The app has no download button for other people's pins, the share sheet hands you a shortened pin.it link, and half the "Pinterest downloader" sites in a normal search are ad mazes. So people go asking on Reddit — and the threads there settle into three kinds of answers. Full disclosure before we compare them: hhhdownload, the site you're reading, is one of the paste-a-link tools in the third group. We'll be straight about the other two anyway.
Answer one: the command-line crowd
Technical subreddits point to gallery-dl, a free open-source program that bulk-saves media from many sites, Pinterest included. It's the right tool if you're archiving a lot of pins and are comfortable installing Python software and typing commands. For one video it's a sledgehammer — and note that yt-dlp, Reddit's usual answer for YouTube, doesn't really cover Pinterest; gallery-dl is the one that does.
Answer two: the browser trick
The zero-tools answer that shows up in threads: open the pin in a desktop browser, press F12, watch the Network tab for a .mp4 request while the video plays, open that URL and save. It works, it's free, and nobody enjoys it — six steps, desktop only, and Pinterest's player sometimes serves the video in pieces (a streaming format), in which case there's no single .mp4 to grab and the trick dead-ends.
Answer three: paste-a-link sites
For most people in most threads, the practical answer is a web tool: paste the pin link, get the file. The differences that matter between these sites — and worth checking whichever one you use:
- Does a pin.it link work as-is? The app's Share button gives you pin.it short links; a good tool follows them to the real pin instead of erroring.
- Do you get the original quality? The file should be the same one Pinterest's player streams — not a re-encoded copy, and no watermark stamped on top.
- How many ads stand between you and the button? The Reddit complaint about this category is always the same: fake download buttons and pop-up redirects.
Our version is the hhhdownload Pinterest video downloader: pin.it links work, you get Pinterest's original file, and there are no fake buttons or sign-up walls. Image pins and animated pins have their own pages — images and GIFs — and all of it is free without caps.
What no tool can do
Worth knowing so you don't blame the wrong thing: private and secret-board pins can't be fetched by any site — if the pin doesn't open in an incognito browser tab, it won't download anywhere. Deleted pins are gone. And downloading a whole board in one go is bulk-scraping someone's collection; hhhdownload doesn't do boards, deliberately — one public pin at a time.
