Download Tumblr videos the easy way
Tumblr video posts point at files on its own CDN, and a post can arrive in several URL shapes — the classic name.tumblr.com/post/… form, the newer tumblr.com/name/… form, or a custom domain when the blog runs on its own address. All three resolve to the same post, and reblogs work as well as originals.
You don't need to chase a reblog back to the source post. Whatever public post you paste, the video attached to it is the video you get — which saves a lot of clicking through long reblog chains.
Tumblr links that work here
- Classic blog URLs: name.tumblr.com/post/12345…
- New-style URLs: tumblr.com/name/12345…
- Blogs on custom domains (the blog runs on its own address)
- Share links copied from the Tumblr app
What can't be downloaded from Tumblr
- Videos on dashboard-only or hidden blogs, which have no public page
- Posts behind Tumblr's mature-content login wall
- Embedded YouTube or Vimeo players inside a Tumblr post — that media is hosted elsewhere
What quality you get from Tumblr
The highest rendition Tumblr keeps for the post, as MP4 with its audio track. Tumblr's video pipeline caps uploads, and for older posts the ceiling was set years ago by what the original poster submitted — an old post stays modest in resolution no matter which downloader is used.
GIFs and photos too
Tumblr is more than video: the Tumblr GIF downloader saves animated posts, and the Tumblr image downloader grabs full-resolution photos — including every image in a photoset.
If a download doesn't work
Tumblr failures are almost always a hidden blog, a deleted post, or a login-walled mature flag — test the link in a private browser tab first.
If a public video still fails, Tumblr may have changed how its pages work — tell us through the contact page and we'll get it working again. That's on us, not you.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Tumblr downloader free?
Yes. Every download on hhhdownload is free, and there's no limit on how many videos you can save.
Do I need an account or the Tumblr app?
No. This page runs on its own in your browser — you never sign in to Tumblr here, and there's no app or extension to install.
Where does the file save to?
On a computer it goes to your Downloads folder. On a phone, check your Downloads or Files app (on iPhone, look in Files › Downloads).
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. The same page works in Safari, Chrome and every modern mobile browser.
Can you download private videos from Tumblr?
No. Hidden and dashboard-only blogs never render a public page, so there's nothing there for any downloader to read.
Do links copied from the Tumblr app work?
Yes. Tap Share on the post, copy the link and paste it here. Posts on custom blog domains work too.
Why do some Tumblr videos fail?
If the blog is hidden from the web or the post only exists on the dashboard, there's no public page for us to read. Quick test: open the link in a private/incognito tab — if it shows there, it downloads here.
What quality do I get?
The highest quality Tumblr stores for that post — the same file the player uses at full size, not a compressed preview.
