Reddit GIF Downloader save Reddit GIFs
Save any Reddit GIF. Reddit serves most GIFs as MP4 for smaller, smoother playback — you'll get that file.

Download Reddit GIFs the easy way
Reddit's GIFs are a mixed bag, and which one you have decides what comes back. Native uploads to i.redd.it can be real .gif files; anything that went through v.redd.it was converted to silent MP4; and a large share of what people call Reddit GIFs are actually Redgifs or Imgur embeds hosted somewhere else entirely.
This page handles the first two and tells you plainly when a link is really an embed pointing off-site. That's usually the answer when a GIF link seems to fail for no reason — the media was never on Reddit.
Reddit links that work here
- A post permalink: reddit.com/r/subreddit/comments/…
- Short share links: redd.it/… and reddit.com/r/sub/s/… from the app
- old.reddit.com and new.reddit.com links — same post, both fine
What can't be downloaded from Reddit
- Media hosted on Redgifs, Imgur or Gfycat-style services — open those links on their own site
- Turning a converted MP4 back into the original .gif, which Reddit no longer holds
- Sound, since neither format carries an audio track here
What quality you get from Reddit
A real .gif when Reddit stored one, otherwise the converted silent MP4 at the dimensions Reddit produced. Converted clips are dramatically smaller than the GIF equivalent and loop identically; neither is re-encoded on our side.
Reddit GIFs are usually MP4
Most 'GIFs' on Reddit are actually short MP4 clips (that's how Reddit keeps them small and smooth). hhhdownload gives you that MP4 — it loops and plays anywhere a video does.
Where Reddit GIFs actually live
A GIF on Reddit is usually a silent MP4 on v.redd.it, sometimes a real .gif on i.redd.it, and occasionally an embed from an outside host. The first two save here exactly as Reddit stores them; embeds belong to their own site.
One casualty worth knowing about: years of old posts embedded Gfycat loops, and Gfycat shut down — those links are dead at the source, and no downloader can recover them.
If a download doesn't work
Reddit fails are usually a deleted post, a private subreddit, or a post whose media actually lives on another site — open the link and check where the content is hosted.
If a public GIF still fails, Reddit may have changed how its pages work — tell us through the contact page and we'll get it working again. That's on us, not you.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Reddit downloader free?
Yes. Every download on hhhdownload is free, and there's no limit on how many GIFs you can save.
Do I need an account or the Reddit app?
No. This page runs on its own in your browser — you never sign in to Reddit here, and there's no app or extension to install.
Where does the file save to?
On a computer it goes to your Downloads folder. On a phone, check your Downloads or Files app (on iPhone, look in Files › Downloads).
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. The same page works in Safari, Chrome and every modern mobile browser.
Can you download private GIFs from Reddit?
No. Private and quarantined subreddits need a logged-in member, so their posts have no public page we can read.
What about clips hosted outside Reddit?
This page handles media Reddit hosts itself (v.redd.it and i.redd.it). If a post embeds a clip from another site, open that clip on its own site — if we support the platform, its page here will take the link.
